Surf Fishing Oak Island.
Oak Island is the largest of the Brunswick County Barrier Islands, stretching from the mouth of the Cape Fear River to the Lockwood Folly Inlet. The island has three main communities: Long Beach, Yaupon Beach and Caswell Beach. Long and Yaupon consolidated in 1999 and is now referred to as Oak Island. Caswell Beach waters are strongly affected by the effluent of the Cape Fear River. The Yaupon and Long Beach communities typically have clearer water than Caswell Beach. Overall, Oak Island has fairly good surf fishing. There is plenty of forage and lots of fish. Down on the the Lockwood Folly Inlet side of the island is perhaps some of the best surf fishing in Brunswick County. Well worth the visit, you should find blues, flounder and puppy drum in the spring and fall.
