Cape Lookout National Seashore
Surf Fishing Cape Lookout
Difficult to reach, the isolated beaches of Cape Lookout National Seashore have some of the best surf fishing in North Carolina. To me, maybe the second best surf fishing along the entire Atlantic coast of the United States. The surf fishing here is not for the faint of heart, there are no bridges to the mainland, tackle shops, hotels or grocery stores. Be prepared by bringing all the supplies you will need for your stay in the park. Insect repellant should be an important part of your supply list. The fishing here is great! Flounder, whiting and other gamefish abound. In the Spring and Fall the large Red Drum and large Bluefish are here as well. In order to fish these beaches well, learn to read the surf. Take your time and scout the sloughs and rips in the bar to hunt the fish you are seeking.
