An undeveloped Island southwest of Ocracoke, Portsmouth Island is only accessible by ferry or private boat. There are no tackle shops or grocery stores on the island, there are a few primitive cabins available for rent, however they are booked up pretty quickly. Be sure to come prepared with all the supplies, bait and insect repellant you will need for the duration of your trip. Small game fishing is pretty consistent in the sloughs along the beach. In the Spring and Fall the big Red Drum and Bluefish pay a visit. On the northern tip of the island is the ghost town of Portsmouth, if you are interested in history, take some time to visit this site.
