The beach fronting and near New Topsail Inlet are good for Bluefish, Red Drum and Black Drum. There are some huge black drum here, the official state record is for a fish caught near Southport in Brunswick county, however for large black drum from the surf Topsail has a well deserved reputation. My memory gets fuzzy at times, but I do remember a potential record black drum was caught on shrimp and returned to the surf back in 2007.Wilmington Area Beaches
