Pleasure Island, from Fort Fisher State Park in the south to Freeman Park in the north, expect good fishing. If you are looking to catch fish for your frying pan, Pleasure Island is a good place to fish. Not much for large trophy fish (except doormat flounder in the Carolina Beach Inlet), the beaches here are very good for small game fishing with plentiful bluefish, whiting, puppy drum and pompano. Down past Kure Beach, there is some coquina outcroppings near the Fort Fisher Aquarium that has some nice black drum. If you like to fish from your 4 wheel drive vehicle, Fort Fisher and Freeman Park are off road vehicle accessible.
